Our journey is an excellent story. Back in 2014 when we started, Ted identified the need to get help sourcing candidates. An RPO reached out, pitched their services and a trial. Ted researched two more to test drive simultaneously. Lucky search on google led to VTSs current VP, Ryan Dsouza. 1st impressions last, Ryan has helped source, develop, and architect cutting edge services for both Recruiting and Marketing services.
When we started VTS, our network provided a ton of business, but I did not know how to do any structured business development, nor did we ever realize how badly I needed to learn and rely on these skills in the future to continue to grow.
We tried BD and through mistakes, pitfalls, and too much time spent with the lack of consistent predictable results, I got frustrated. Opportunity cost - I could have been working on more productive activities. I didn’t know what I didn’t know! I now decide which clients to work with.
I was looking for consistent leads at an affordable level that can deliver results, and found one through a Digital Marketing Coach. My team and I dove right in, creating, and testing. When we hit a milestone (interested customer, call, sale), we simply multiply the activity level to achieve predictable results. We doubled down on digital. After much trial and error, we established our proprietary business development process, 2 months before the global COVID lockdown. As a result, we acquired new recruiting customers during the pandemic and continued to make placements.

My chair, Jeff Bauer, encouraged our marketing service start up which is taking VTS to new heights. I learned about and implemented EOS. The process that we use to recruit both new business and increase our candidate pipeline was more valuable than I imagined. Before Vistage I thought “sales destroys blindspots” whereas now “know your blindspots, increase your sales.”

Vertical Talent Solutions started as a recruiting company in 2014, we have evolved into something pretty cool. Within months of starting the business, Ryan was hired halfway around the world. We started by recruiting for a variety of large companies and skill sets in Connecticut and across the country. Through trial and error, we have several business cases of filling roles faster than larger recruiting companies.
Since 2014, we have had great team members at various times. At the end of 2019, Ryan and I decided to build a team of recruiters around him. We hired Randall, and the light bulb went off, now we needed more business. After 2019, and recognizing the opportunity to learn and get good at new business development, we took a different approach in 2020. We hired a Marketing coach and realized that finding customers is very similar to recruiting candidates. We systematized our processes and built a Project Team to support our new machine, improve it, and keep it consistent. We hired Zehrah who took over the responsibilities and quickly grew into a leader. We hired Amos, Clinton, Tanesha, and Alisha to support Zehrah. In some ways, we got lucky - we started this at the beginning of 2020, before the pandemic. Through trial and error, our new process became our secret sauce landing new clients across the country and making several placements within a 2 week period of time.
