Role Overview
The Controller will oversee all accounting operations, financial reporting, and team management to ensure accuracy, compliance, and strategic alignment with company goals. This is a hands-on leadership role managing a small team (1 AR, 1 AP) while driving structure, process improvements, and financial insights.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic & Financial Leadership
- Manage accounting functions and ensure accuracy of financial records.
- Lead budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis to support decision-making.
- Oversee cash flow, bank reconciliations, and state tax filings.
- Partner with leadership on financial strategy, vendor negotiations, and risk management.
Operations & Reporting
- Oversee month-end close, journal entries, and reconciliations.
- Prepare and audit financial statements, reports, and GL account analysis.
- Manage payroll, commissions, bonuses, and compliance with HR.
- Ensure accuracy in receivables, payables, billing, and collections.
Team & Process Management
- Direct AR/AP functions, ensuring roles are clearly defined.
- Provide guidance on best practices for sales posting, vendor management, and billing.
- Maintain accountability, accuracy, and timely communication across all financial functions.
- Be detail-oriented, proactive, and unafraid to “dig in” to identify issues and solutions.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Controller or senior accounting leader.
- Strong background in accounting, financial analysis, and cash management.
- Experience in a smaller company or MSP/tech services environment preferred.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and vendor negotiation skills.
- Ability to balance strategic planning with hands-on execution
